Select top step height based on operations to be performed or weight and bulk of objects to be carried. Maximum convenient working height is generally 5'0" to 6'0" above top step.

Particularly in the larger sizes, choose a wide ladder over a narrow one if space permits. For very bulky loads, consider a 32" wide ladder. Take into account whether people must pass ladder in aisle and where it must rest when not in use.

Consider limitations on ladder dimensions imposed by doorways, overhead obstructions, corners that ladders must turn, etc.

Baskets and shelves are available for resting or sorting merchandise while on the ladder.

Only consider using narrow width ladders when you must. Where aisles are narrow, and space is tight.
